Genshin Impact had the most-watch Gamescom trailer

Gamescom’s Opening Night Live game showcase has come and gone, offering fans a new look at many of the most exciting upcoming games. With its conclusion, we now know which games caught the eyes of fans the most, with Genshin Impact coming out on top as the most watched trailer from the event.

As collated and announced by BenjiSales on Twitter, 24 hours removed from the event, the most viewed trailer from Opening Night Live on YouTube is Genshin Impact’s 3.0 trailer, which managed to hit 1.9 million views. This was followed closely by the Sonic Frontiers story trailer, racking up more than 1.4 million views within 24 hours.

The third most-viewed trailer was that of Dead Island 2 – specifically the gameplay trailer, which finally showed off the game once again after almost a decade of waiting. With time seems to have come excitement, as Dead Island 2’s trailer managed more than 1.3 million views in 24 hours.

The rest of the most viewed trailers were as follows:

  1. Dune Awakening – 1.2m+
  2. The Lords of the Fallen – 1.1m+
  3. DualSense Edge – 1m+
  4. Hogwarts Legacy – 700k+

With how many games that were shown off at Opening Night Live, it is interesting to see which ones excited fans the most. Nearly two years on from launch, it seems Genshin Impact is just as big as ever.

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
