Battlefield 2042 player count hits new all-time high

Battlefield 2042 seems to be having a resurgence at the moment. While the game initially launched to negative reviews and quickly dropped off, with the game attracting fewer players than older Battlefield titles, a recent free weekend has pushed the game back to the top.

Battlefield 2042 has a new all-time peak concurrent player count on Steam, with over 103,000 people logging in to play the game over the weekend. This tops out the game's original launch in November 2021, which peaked at around 101,000 concurrent players.

The interesting part is that the free weekend took place at the same time as the pre-order beta for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, which has received some negative feedback. An open beta for Modern Warfare 3 will take place this upcoming weekend.

Battlefield 2042 has slowly built its player base back up over the last year. The game hit an all-time low of just 3,000 concurrent players in March 2022, as players became frustrated with the slow fixes. At this point, the game seems to be in a much better place, often peaking at well over 10,000 concurrent players a month. Prior to this free weekend, the previous post-launch concurrent player high came in December 2022, when the game peaked at over 36,000 concurrent players.

The true test will be whether or not EA can maintain this renewed level of interest in the game. It is currently on sale for just £7.99 on Steam following the free weekend, although the game's recent rating on Steam still sits at mixed overall based on just over 6,000 new user reviews.
