Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons is free on the Epic Games Store

Each week, the Epic Games Store offers at least one game for free to all those with an Epic Games account. From now until Thursday the 24th of February, users can get their hands on the unique platformer Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons.

Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons was the video game directorial debut of Josef Fares. Now known best perhaps for having directed 2021’s TGA Game of the Year ‘It Takes Two’, Fares’ Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons is a much smaller game focusing heavily on emotion and visual storytelling.

Perhaps its most impressive ‘gimmick’ is the fact that you must control two players at the same time throughout the entire game. This lends itself nicely to not only thematic and impactful subtext, but also full and engaging gameplay.

While perhaps not as big nor bombastic as Fares’ next two games, Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons managed to hit many people in the same way ThatGameCompany’s ‘Journey’ did. The synopsis for Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons is as follows:

“A man, clinging to life. His two sons, desperate to cure their ailing father, are left with but one option. They must set out upon a journey to find and bring back the ‘Water of Life’ as they come to rely on one another to survive. One must be strong where the other is weak, brave where the other is fearful, they must be… Brothers.”

Josef Faris is an eccentric director, but this is what makes his games so memorable. Almost 10 years on from its initial launch, Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons is still definitely worth picking up. Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons will be available to purchase for free from now until the 24th of February, at which point the promotional title will be replaced by CrisTales.

KitGuru Games: Predicting the Next Half a Decade of Call of Duty Releases

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
