Respawn reportedly has a new Titanfall game in the works

Fans of Titanfall have been hoping for a new game for years but unfortunately, following the launch of Apex Legends, it seems all plans for a Titanfall 3 were dropped. We aren't likely to ever get the Titanfall 3 that Respawn originally planned, but according to sources this week, the studio is cooking up something new.

Last week amidst a round of lay-offs and project cancellations, EA's CEO made it clear that the publisher would be pivoting away from ‘licensed' games once again to refocus on its own IP. It would seem that Titanfall is one such IP getting some newfound attention. According to industry insider, Jeff Grubb, who has accurately reported details on Respawn projects in the past, the studio is now working on a new game set in the Titanfall universe, with prototyping for gameplay currently taking place.

Currently, this project is a Titanfall project, as in, it is set in the same universe. Exactly how ‘in-universe' it ends up being still remains to be seen. While set in the Titanfall universe, Apex Legends has notable key differences from the original games, so there are different locations and time periods at play for a new game to slot into.

One would hope that perhaps some of the work put towards Respawn's cancelled Mandalorian game could be reused here. Those who had seen demos of the game in action described the first-person shooter gameplay as ‘fast paced', in large part thanks to the mobility provided by the jetpack, allowing players to zip up or to the side to avoid incoming fire. Some of the other gadgets described include a wrist rocket, grapple hook and multiple types of grenades, all of which would fit well within a Titanfall setting.
