Guilty Gear Strive update 2.0 officially detailed

First released back in 2021 for PlayStation and PC, Guilty Gear Strive is the latest entry in the long-running and much loved 2.5D fighting series from Arc System Works. While the studio continues to work on the upcoming Marvel Tokon, Strive is still seeing plenty of support – with the previously-announced 2.0 update now being officially detailed.

Releasing a blogpost discussing the game’s next major update, Arc System Works producer Ken Miyauchi revealed just how transformative patch 2.0 should be, writing:

“With Version 2.0 and beyond, our goal is not simply to adjust characters or add new content, but to prepare updates that offer a refreshed overall experience—one that feels engaging, almost like picking up a new game.”

2.0 specifically is being labelled as “a milestone: an opportunity to review and refine what we have built so far, and to take the next step forward for Guilty Gear -Strive-.”

Even so, the update looks to be pretty substantial, with Arc confirming that the launch of 2.0 will arrive alongside a new playable character – with many other pre-existing characters said to be seeing “changes that go beyond standard tuning, including potential reworks.”

Finally, the team offered a few specifics on some characters which are set to receive changes, including new moves for Sol Badguy, Ky Kiske, Nagoriyuki, and Leo Whitefang.

Guilty Gear Strive is easily one of Arc System Works’ most successful titles, with the game having sold over 3.5 million copies so far. With update 2.0 scheduled to arrive some time next year, it will be interesting to see just how long the game winds up receiving updates on this level – and whether they will officially move on once Tokon releases.
