Xbox July showcase to feature The Initiative’s first game

We heard last week that Microsoft's big July Xbox Series X showcase wouldn't be happening until later in the month. Now, we have a more specific date narrowed down thanks to new reports. Sources are also indicating that third-party games will be shown alongside first-party titles.

According to VideoGameChronicle and another reporter, Jeff Grubb, Microsoft is planning to hold its second next-gen games showcase on the 23rd of July. However, this is just the ‘current plan', so things could change. As we saw last month, Sony's own presentation also moved dates, so these things can easily move around.

According to VGC, one big game that will be shown is the first project from ‘The Initiative', the studio Microsoft formed in 2018, led by Darrell Gallagher, who previously spearheaded the Tomb Raider reboot at Crystal Dynamics. Currently, rumours are suggesting that The Initiative is rebooting Perfect Dark, a long dormant franchise for Xbox.

The third-party games said to be making an appearance are currently unknown. Microsoft should be ready to confirm its plans in the next week or two.

KitGuru Games: Predicting the Next Half a Decade of Call of Duty Releases

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
