Ubisoft reveals the five types of alien hybrids that will swarm Rainbow Six Siege during Outbreak event

Rainbow Six Siege’s upcoming Outbreak event has already been likened to that of pre-established zombies modes, however Team Rainbow will be up against a much different threat than your average undead. Ahead of its March 6th launch, Ubisoft has revealed details on the five types of otherworldly enemies that players will be fighting to contain during the limited event.

It turns out that the zombie-like enemies are ordinary humans transformed by an alien parasite that’s “adapting faster than we can track,” according to Team Rainbow’s Eliza “Ash” Cohen. Considering the team’s speciality is lethally taking down any threat, this poses a number of intriguing questions as to what the narrative might hold in store for the player. If there turns out to be a cure, what of the numerous lives taken without mercy?

If there is a cure, however, players will need to fight through Grunts, Breachers, Rooters, Smasher and Apex enemies to get to it.

  • Grunts are common hostiles that become highly resistant when the parasite detects an enemy presence. To protect its host, the parasite armors its body and becomes more resistant to bullet wounds. Caution and stealth is recommended.
  • Breachers are proximity bombs that crater anything in their path. They make for a very agile opponent, but they launch themselves into the fray and blow holes in indestructible walls. Make sure you are nowhere close to them.
  • Rooters are a rarer type of hostile. They send out coral spikes from the ground to injure and immobilize their targets. Rooters are always on the move and will keep you on edge. Beware when dealing them the final blow; they become extremely lethal when on the brink of death.
  • Smashers are not discreet. The parasite reinforces its body under a massively thick hide, making it practically impervious to bullet wounds. They will also tear down walls without suffering any injuries.
  • Apex is at the top of the hostile food chain. It sends waves of hostiles your way rather than attack you head-on. They can hurl blinding projectiles, which can only be countered by Finka and Doc. This opponent is a real test on your team’s communication skills.

Siege’s Outbreak co-op event will last for four weeks, from March 6th to April 3rd and will kick off the start of Year 3. More information, particularly on the two new Operators, Olivier “Lion” Flament and Lera “Finka” Menikov, will be available during the Six Invitational, Siege’s biggest eSports event that runs from Febrary 18th – 19th.

KitGuru Says: I am still unsure how I feel about the event. While I feel that Siege’s unique environmental destruction would lend itself well to more than just 5-on-5 player-versus-player, I also don’t like seeing less maps to change up the multiplayer and competitive scenes. Are you excited for Outbreak? What would you like to see Ubisoft do with Siege moving forward?
