Gamescom expands livestream plans, final decision on physical event coming in May

Over the last few weeks, Gamescom has been giving frequent updates on the status of its 2020 event. This week, Gamescom began revising its plans, looking to expand on digital content while a final decision on whether or not the physical event will go ahead.

Gamescom is one of the biggest gaming events in the world, with attendees reaching record highs in 2019. However, due to the coronavirus pandemic, organisers are updating their plans for 2020. The event isn't due to take place for another five months, but a decision on whether to cancel the physical event or not will be made in mid-May.

In the meantime, Gamescom is expanding its digital presence this year. Opening Night Live, hosted by Geoff Keighley, is being expanded this year and additional livestreams are also being planned and should go ahead whether the in-person event is cancelled or not.

If a physical event is possible, then more details on that will also be announced in May. Those who already bought tickets for the event will be able to get a refund, so expect more details on that too.

KitGuru Says: We have no idea how long the current situation will last, so it is likely best to hold off on travel plans and events for the next few months at least. E3 has been cancelled, so it would be a shame to lose Gamescom too, but health is always most important.

KitGuru Games: Predicting the Next Half a Decade of Call of Duty Releases

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
