Latest price hikes will see Xbox Series X rise to $650

Back in May of this year, shortly before cancelling a number of projects and shutting down studios, Microsoft had raised prices on Xbox Series X/S consoles. Now just a few months later, Microsoft is hiking up prices once again, meaning an Xbox Series X will soon cost $650 as standard.

Depending on the model, the latest price rises will see products being anywhere from $20 to $70 more expensive. The really telling part is the fact that an Xbox Series X will now cost $650 in the US, after launching at the $499 price point five years ago.

In the table below you can see a comparison between the ‘current' price and the new price once the changes go into effect:

Console Model Old Price New Price Increase
Xbox Series S 512GB $379.99 $399.99 +$20
Xbox Series S 1TB $429.99 $449.99 +$20
Xbox Series X Digital $549.99 $599.99 +$50
Xbox Series X $599.99 $649.99 +$50
Xbox Series X 2TB Galaxy Black Special Ed. $729.99 $799.99 +$70

Microsoft cites “changes in the economic environment” as the cause behind this latest price hike. Speculation puts the blame on the US government's import tariffs, as the price hike is only impacting US customers at this time.

KitGuru Says: This has been the weirdest console generation of my lifetime. Both the Xbox Series X and the PS5 are more expensive than they were at launch, despite being five years into the generation. On top of that, we'll soon be moving on to next generation Xbox and PlayStation consoles within the next two years.

KitGuru Games: Predicting the Next Half a Decade of Call of Duty Releases

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
