Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 to release in November but no Nintendo support at launch

We're days away from Gamescom and there have been a number of leaks in the lead up. The most recent leaks have come via back-end store updates, which show that Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is bound for PC and consoles in November, but Nintendo console owners will have to wait a bit longer.

According to billbil-kun, a prominent leaker with a long history of accuracy, Black Ops 7 will be skipping the Switch 2 at launch. Based on what they've uncovered, the game will launch worldwide on the 14th of November for PC, as well as current and last-gen PlayStation and Xbox consoles.

Microsoft has not yet addressed what is going on With Call of Duty and the Nintendo platform. Prior to the acquisition of Activision Blizzard, Microsoft signed binding agreements with competitors like Nintendo and Sony to ensure equal access to the Call of Duty IP across all three major console platforms.

However, Nintendo has reportedly had issues with supplying development kits, leaving many potential Switch 2 projects in limbo. Given that Microsoft has not yet announced any major projects for the Switch 2, we would hazard a guess that Microsoft simply did not have the hardware needed to develop a Switch 2 version of Black Ops 7 in time for launch.

It is unclear if Black Ops 7 will eventually launch on the Switch 2, or if Microsoft will opt to wait for COD 2026. Official news around this year's Call of Duty is expected to come throughout Gamescom next week.

KitGuru Says: The Nintendo Switch 2 only just launched in June and everything we've heard so far indicates that Nintendo was very choosy with which studios got early access to the hardware. With all of that in mind, it wouldn't surprise me to hear that Microsoft did not have enough time to get this year's Call of Duty ready for Nintendo's new console. Still, it would be nice to hear that from them, rather than have everything shrouded in unnecessary levels of secrecy.

KitGuru Games: Predicting the Next Half a Decade of Call of Duty Releases

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
