Over 96% of Switch 2 buyers also picked up Mario Kart World

The $80 price tag for Mario Kart World sent shockwaves through the gaming industry, but that has not stopped it from selling. At the end of June, Nintendo had sold six million Switch 2 consoles and almost every single one of those customers also owns a copy of the new Mario Kart game. 

Nintendo has revealed sales data from the Switch 2 launch month. In June, the new console sold 5.82 million units, and of that number, 5.63 million also bought a copy of Mario Kart World, either as part of the £429 bundle, or as a separate purchase.

This figure puts Mario Kart World at an over 96% attach rate, a figure that should drop as more Switch 2 units make it out into the wild and more console bundles release. The Mario Kart World Switch 2 bundle will be replaced in October with a new Pokémon Legends Z-A bundle.

Unfortunately for all of the other publishers supporting the Switch 2 at launch, Mario Kart World ate up the vast majority of sales. Around 8.67 million Switch 2 games were sold in June, and as we now know, almost 6 million of those sales were just for Mario Kart World.

KitGuru Says: As impressed as I've been with the Switch 2 hardware-wise, the software line-up is currently leaving a lot to be desired. For a start, far more Switch 1 exclusives need to be updated, particularly stuff like Bayonetta 3 and the Xenoblade games, as they ran absolutely terribly on the original hardware, with sub-HD resolutions.
