Sony jumps ahead of HTC in UK Android sales

Sony has always been somewhat of a quiet achiever in the smartphone arena ever since its split with Ericsson earlier in the year. In Q3, Sony has jumped ahead of HTC in UK smartphone sales; while both companies remain far behind Samsung.

Sony sold 500,000 units in the third quarter while HTC were 60,000 units behind. It could be said that Sony's “Bond Phone” advertising campaign helped them out. Meanwhile, Samsung sold over three times more units than Sony and HTC combined with 3.2 million units.

“All sources are confirming the same trend – that we are jumping into second place in the UK Android segment. This is what all our customers are telling us, that Sony Mobile is considered a top player in the UK Android space,” – Pierre Perron, United Kingdom Managing Director of Sony Mobile.

KitGuru says: Sony has started to combine modern hardware with solid software so 2013 should be a bright year.
