Netflix clarifies CEO’s ’80-plus games in development’ comment

Earlier in the week, it was reported that Netflix has a staggering 80 games in development. As it turns out, there was a catch here. Netflix has now clarified that the quoted 80 games figure was referring to titles for Netflix's Interactive Fiction series.

The quote first came about during Netflix's earnings call earlier in the week, in which executives reaffirmed their commitment to gaming, going on to say that there are “80-plus games currently in development”, many of which are based on Netflix-owned IP.

Since then, Netflix has issued some clarification to GI.biz, confirming that the 80 games figure is specifically referring to interactive fiction titles, which Netflix already has several of, all based on its own shows. Netflix will be releasing one of these every month for the foreseeable future as it looks to increase engagement numbers with its game-centred offering.

This doesn't mean that Netflix doesn't have more comprehensive game projects in the works, but there won't be nearly as many as those in comparison to the point and click style games.
