Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 patch brings difficulty adjustments and more

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 launched back in April to a flurry of strong praise, with the hybrid turn-based RPG becoming the highest-rated game of the year so far and going on to sell over 3.3 million copies in its first 33 days. Despite the game’s universal acclaim, no title is perfect, and as such, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has now gotten its most notable patch yet.

Making the announcement via their Steam page, the team at Sandfall Interactive officially detailed patch 1.3. First thing’s first, for those who enjoy using Steam’s points shop, a number of items have been made available to redeem.

In terms of the update itself however, some of the most notable changes/additions include:

  • Story Mode Balancing with increased dodge windows and damage reduction
  • At flag checkpoints, players can now:
    • Limit max player damage to 99,999 or 999,999
    • Multiply enemy HP by x2, x5, x10, x20, x50, or x100
  • General polish across collisions, terrain, and scripting
  • Cutscenes scale properly on ultrawide and non-standard resolutions
  • Fixed performance drops from repeated resting on certain levels
  • Fixed stability issues after extended play sessions

Clair Obscur Expedition 33

The biggest change is easily the adjustment to the parry windows on the game’s easy (story) mode – with an increase of 40%. Given the relatively unique style of gameplay of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, it makes sense that the team might need to make adjustments to its core mechanics. Of course, those who want more of a challenge can pick from the other difficulty modes.

With the game blowing up in the way that it did, it is encouraging to see that the team are willing to listen to community feedback and make adjustments which allow for increased accessibility.
