GMK has announced the TriggerKey, a set of four specialised toggle keys designed to replace standard WASD or arrow keycaps on mechanical keyboards. The kit changes switch travel and actuation points with an adjustable screw mechanism, without requiring users to swap out their underlying mechanical switches.
The design uses a toggle system that tilts up to 34°, pre-pressing the switch stem to modify physical travel and actuation distance. According to GMK (via Guru3D), this mechanism delivers faster responsiveness in fast-paced games while changing typing acoustics. This acoustic change comes partly from its smaller size and different shape, which are also said to reduce key wobble.
Operation differs from standard keycaps as the TriggerKey pivots rather than depressing vertically. Setup requires users to fit the mechanism onto compatible switch stems before fine-tuning the travel distance with the included screws. Compatibility is limited to Cherry MX-style mechanical switches, with most magnetic switches listed as incompatible.
Priced at €49, the TriggerKey bundle comes with four keycaps and assembly accessories. Colour options are plentiful, with 13 options to choose from.
KitGuru says: Switch actuation directly at the keycap level is an unusual concept, though €49 for four caps means it remains a niche option for enthusiast setups.
