Call of Duty is finally adding a highly-requested ‘Operator Skin Toggle’

A little over one year ago, Activision announced that they would be cancelling their plans to carry forward content from Black Ops 6 into the then-upcoming BO7, citing at the time that the game “needs to feel authentic to Call of Duty and its setting”. Given that much of the discourse was surrounding a particular set of cosmetic skins, the move seemed somewhat drastic – with many fans hoping for a simple visual filter toggle. While this never came to be, Activision has now confirmed that such a feature will be coming to Warzone in alignment with Modern Warfare 4 Season 1.

Taking to their blog to make the unexpected announcement, the ‘Call of Duty Staff’ offered some early details regarding the integration of Modern Warfare 4 into Warzone. Since the launch of MWII in 2022, each new iteration of Warzone has allowed for all past content to be carried forward – making for a mishmash of operators including real-world celebrities; animal-human hybrids; demonic figures; and perhaps most infamously, cell-shaded versions of Beavis and Butt-Head.

Finally, Call of Duty are addressing this controversy in the best way possible, giving each player the choice to enable or disable these cosmetics, writing: “Starting with Season 1 of Modern Warfare 4, we’re giving players more control over how Call of Duty: Warzone looks and feels with a new Operator Skin toggle function.”

They continue, “This all-new filter has been built specifically for the Modern Warfare 4 chapter, giving players more control over the Operator Skins they see in Call of Duty: Warzone only. When toggled on, the filter displays only Modern Warfare 4 Operators in the game, giving players the choice to see other Operator Skins.”

Full details on how the toggle works can be found HERE, but in essence it seems to be exactly what many players had been asking for years: a visual filter which only affects you on a personal level – making for the best of both worlds.

Unfortunately, it seems as though there is no intention to bring the previously-cancelled carry forward to Black Ops 7, with the team writing “existing plans for Carry Forward for previous titles are not affected with this update.”

Given that the main issue with carry forward was with the operator cosmetics, this decision is somewhat disappointing. Regardless, this is a highly welcome feature (and one which will hopefully be offered for all future entries).

KitGuru says: Are you surprised that they actually added a toggle? Will this impact the sales of their cosmetic bundles? Will you be enabling the filter when it goes live? Let us know down below.
