Embracer CEO apologises for the company’s current state

Over the past few years, the Embracer Group has risen and fallen at a surprisingly rapid rate. From acquiring companies left, right and centre, to then selling those same companies off just a few years later – all the while cancelling projects and firing employees. Embracer has received backlash from fans for its business-first mentality – something which the company’s CEO has now addressed.

In an interview conducted by Gamesindustry.biz, Lars Wingefors – the CEO of Embracer – discussed the current sentiment surrounding the video game holding company, stating:

“As a leader and an owner, sometimes you need to take the blame and you need to be humble about if you've made mistakes and if you could have done something differently.”

He continued, “I'm sure I deserve a lot of criticism, but I don't think my team or companies deserve all the criticism. I could take a lot of that blame myself. But ultimately I need to believe in the mission we set out and that is still valid, and we are now enabling that by doing this [new] structure.”

While undoubtedly a bunch of corporate speak, the public acknowledgement of their situation is at least something to hold onto. Hopefully these aren’t just empty words.

KitGuru says: What’s your perception of Embracer? Can that ever be changed/improved? Do you believe the statement made? Let us know down below.
