IOI’s Project 007 to feature 1st and 3rd person according to job listing

Following the successful conclusion to their most recent HITMAN World of Assassination Trilogy, IO Interactive announced that they are working on a 007 James Bond game. So far, we have seen next to nothing from the game, but according to a new job listing, the title could wind up using a hybrid of 3rd and 1st person perspectives.

As discovered by the publication Tech4Gamers, a new job listing by IOI for a Senior Level Designer (Combat) states that applicants should “Have a passion for and demonstrate expertise in crafting levels with a keen focus on combat scenarios for third-person (or first-person) action-adventure games.”

Based on this, it seems as though IOI’s Project 007 will likely feature some sort of hybrid 1st/3rd person mechanic. While the studio is known primarily for their 3rd person titles, this hybrid system will likely either involve mostly 3rd person gameplay with shooting being in first-person – or a reverse of this where the game is mainly in first-person, but cover shooting and other various actions (such as climbing) would switch to 3rd person.

The recent trailer for Machine Games’ Indiana Jones and The Great Circle showed off a primarily first-person game which will switch to 3rd person at certain moments. Considering the fact that Machine Games are known for their first person shooters, it is likely that IOI will opt for the reverse with their upcoming 007 title. We will have to wait and see.
