Need for Speed Unbound getting surprise 2nd year of support

EA’s Need for Speed franchise has had a varying amount of success over the years/generations, with many of its earlier entries being bona fide classics – and their modern release much less so. In a surprising move, the team have now revealed that Need for Speed Unbound will be getting a 2nd year of post-launch support – adding content inspired by prior NFS titles.

Making the announcement on their blog, EA said “Surprise! We're still here, and not just here – we have a whole year's worth of content coming to you! NFS turns 30 this year, and with that huge legacy, we couldn’t stand idle. However, this year will be a bit different from the previous one.”

Unbound’s second year of content will focus on the franchise’s legacy, with the team stating “Our vision is that through our second year of live service, you can, for the first time, begin to play the ultimate NFS experience in one place.”

While the team’s full plans currently remain somewhat under wraps, they have confirmed that some of the updates will be inspired by the iconic NFS Underground as well as the much-loved Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit.

While far from the best game in the series, Need for Speed Unbound marked a major step up from other recent releases with a more unique aesthetic and a focus on arcade racing. It will be interesting to see what other prior titles end up being represented.
