Smelling South Park farts, with the Nosulus Rift

Ubisoft had a surprisingly successful game on its hands with South Park the Stick of Truth, so it's doing it again with the Fractured But Whole. To provide a special promotional opportunity at Gamescom however, it showed off the game with a unique peripheral: the Nosulus Rift, which lets you smell farts, while you play.

Now who would willingly strap themselves into a device which pumps the smell of farts into their nose? No one, really, which is why the TomsHardware staffer subjected to such a device discusses being somewhat forcibly required to try it for the good of his reader base.

Note. I'd smell farts for you guys if I had to.

That didn't make the experience any more bearable though. At the Ubisoft Gamescom booth, he found himself strapped into the device, which sits (uncomfortably, we're told) on the lower half of your face, encasing your mouth and nose in its confines. The idea is, that when you fire off farts in game to do damage to your enemies, you also get a dose of fart smell.

This isn't your average weak fart spray or stink bomb either, this is really nasty stuff, according to the report. Truly “rancid,” was the way it was described.

It's not clear whether this is something Ubisoft plans to install at a lot of its promotional booths, but it's no doubt an interesting way to draw in crowds, even if just to watch journalists nearly vomit while playing a South Park game.

KitGuru Says: If this is at the Insomnia LAN this weekend, I'll give it a shot. I wouldn't say I'm excited about the prospect, but in the interest of journalistic integrity, you have to, right?
