EVGA Tegra tablets incoming

EVGA and Nvidia have just announced their partnership to bring you the world’s first Tegra 4 powered tablet: The Tegra Note 7. It’s hurtling on to the shelves in October, with a price tag of £180, just in time for the holiday season.

Here’s what we know so far about the specs;

  • A Cortex A-15 CPU paired with a Tegra 4 GPU
  • 1 GB of RAM
  • A 720p HD screen
  • Android OS
  • Nvidia pure audio

For a budget device EVGA and Nvidia have put real effort into the device’s camera. Rather than settling for the stock camera app they’ve implemented ‘Smugmug’ one of the most popular camera apps on Android and IOS. The Tegra Note 7 camera will be able to deliver 100 frames per second slow motion video and tap to track features. The design of the new device has taken note of what was one of the best features of the Nexus 10: its front facing speakers. These speakers are also said to have the widest frequency range of any mobile device. There will also be 16 GB’s of storage but like the Samsung galaxy phones, there will be expandable storage meaning space won’t be an issue.

The Tegra Note 7 will run the latest version of Android, 4.3 Jelly Bean with updates provided by Nvidia itself – hopefully these updates will arrive faster than on most Android devices. Yes we are looking at you Samsung.

Being a budget tablet there are some cutbacks, mainly with the screen, 1080p has become more common in smartphones and tablets, however in a 7 inch form factor it might not look too bad.

KitGuru Says: This new budget tablet will rival the Nexus 7 this holiday season. On paper it looks good but until we get our hands on it we won’t know exactly how well it performs – that being said, I’m excited to see this tablet in action. Anyone else considering purchasing it?
