The Asus Padfone has been no industry secret and after some teasers last week the device has been officially announced at Mobile World Congress.

The smartphone component of the Padfone has a 4.3 inch Super AMOLED qHD display, a red-hot Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 chipset and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. There will be a 8 MP rear camera and a front-facing VGA camera. Supporting acts include between 16 and 64 GB of storage plus room to grow with a MicroSD slot, Bluetooth 4.0 and HSPA+ support which is theoretically capable of 42 Mb/s download speeds plus a 1520 mAh battery.

This smartphone can then be inserted into a 10.1 inch tablet shell which has a 1280×800 IPS display and can extend the phone’s battery life nine-fold. The phone and tablet combo can then be inserted into a keyboard dock just like another of Asus’ tablets, the Transformer Prime.

Completing the Padfone experience will be a stylus that can not only be used to make random sketches when boredom ensues but can also be used to recieve phone calls thanks to a integrated Bluetooth module.

It is expected that the Asus Padfone will launch sometime in April but no pricing or specific information on component combos have been announced yet.

Kitguru says: Asus is easily leading the innovation game in the Android world at the present time.
