Google mark up 140 takeovers since 2010

Google are strengthening their portfolio this year with patent and company acquisitions. Their latest purchase is software company QuickOffice, who create mobile office software.

Quickoffice have offered a service very similar to Google Docs, free alternatives to Microsoft Office software. Quickoffice has been focused completely on mobile devices such as the Apple iPad and Google Android devices. QuickOffice claim a user base of 300,000.

Google engineering director Alan Warren wrote on a blog post “Quickoffice has an established track record of enabling seamless interoperability with popular file formats, and we'll be working on bringing their powerful technology to our apps product suite.”

Quickoffice are based in Texas and will now become part of the Google Apps team, although neither company have announced if the employees will move to the Google HQ, or remain where they are now.

Alan Masarek, Quickoffice co-founder wrote on his blog “By combining the magic of Google's intuitive solutions with Quickoffice's powerful products, our shared vision for anytime, anywhere productivity can only grow.”
