Google testing same day delivery service in San Fran

Google are testing the water in the retail sector, announcing that they are testing a same day delivery service of online goods in the San Francisco Bay Area.

A small number of testers, aged 18 and over are able to purchase goods online via partners such as Staples, Target and Walgreens and get same day delivery service through a Google courier.

The testers who are involved get a free 6 month membership to the service according to the company, although the details of how much this service will cost wasn't revealed.

The website shows that the deliveries will take place same day between 10am and 9pm. This follows reports from TechCrunch earlier this month that Google were working out logistics for a same day delivery service.

Their main competitor right now is the Amazon Prime Service which has proven that popular for Amazon they have reported losses every year. This costs $79 (£49) a year which also gives the customers access to streaming video. TechCrunch said in their report that Google will be aiming to charge $10 to $15 less than Amazon Prime to attract attention.

Google have provided an entry system for retailers to join their same day service. They are required to inform about their location as well as details if they are able to provide Google with product ‘several times a day'.

Kitguru says: At this point there is no indication of when this service might expand past San Francisco into other parts of America, or even other countries.
