Ex Commodore Amiga owners like myself will be anticipating the upcoming release of Shadow Of The Beast, just announced by Sony at their Gamecom press conference.

The Shadow Of The Beast was a side scrolling platform game produced by Reflections Interactive and published by Psygnosis in 1989. The original version was designed for the Commodore Amiga but it was ported to other systems afterwards. The original Amiga game cost a whopping £35 at the time, which was unheard of in that era, although the company bundled a t-shirt with the game. Box artwork was designed by Roger Dean, which many people remarked was designed in the same style as rock band YES album artwork.

Shadow Of The Beast was considered revolutionary at the time because of the graphics detail, with up to twelve levels of parallax scrolling backdrops and more colours than ever displayed on screen. The music score was also remarkable, composed by David Whittaker. It featured high quality instrument samples to heighten the atmosphere.

The first game's story is about a man named Aarbron who was kidnapped as a child and corrupted through magic into a monstrous warrior-servant for the evil beast lord Maletoth. The creature's memory of his human life returns when he watches a man being executed, whom he later recognizes as his father. This prompts Aarbron to seek revenge on Maletoth. (Wikipedia)

The Playstation 4 remake has been given to Heavy Spectrum and will feature updated graphics and soundtrack. Sony say the title will be one of the big exclusives and they have released a teaser video which you can watch above.
