Bayonetta 3 scores high in first wave of reviews

There has been a lot of controversy around Bayonetta 3 over the last couple of weeks, after the game's previous lead voice actor called for fans to boycott the game. However, despite all of the noise, PlatinumGames appears to have come out on top, with Bayonetta 3 scoring very highly across reviews.

The first wave of reviews are now live for Bayonetta 3, with many high scores from different outlets. Looking at Metacritic, the game currently sits at an 88 overall score based on 34 reviews, while on OpenCritic the number sits at 89.

The game isn't out until the end of this week, so it will be a few days before we see user scores and reviews from fans of the series. These overall scores are close to the previous games. Bayonetta 2 scored a 91 with its Wii U release and garnered an overall Metascore of 92 when it came to Switch in 2018. The original Bayonetta scored a 90 on Xbox 360 back in 2010.

Bayonetta 3 has primarily been in headlines recently due to calls to boycott the game after the former lead voice actor cited an extremely low offer to return for the third game. There were holes in the story though, as while the actor initially claimed that they were offered $4000 to return, they later admitted that the first offer was $10,000, followed by a $15,000 offer when that wasn't accepted.
