There will be a new Call of Duty game in 2023 after all

For months now, we've been hearing that Activision plans to release an expansion for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 this year, in lieu of a brand new Call of Duty game. As it turns out, those plans have now changed. According to new reports, Sledgehammer's expansion has since grown into its own game.

Last year, it was claimed that Activision would not release a new Call of Duty game in 2023, but would instead look to expand Modern Warfare 2, giving Infinity Ward's latest another year on the market and a fresh injection of content in the form of new multiplayer maps and campaign content.

Now according to insider-gaming, this ‘premium DLC' developed by Sledgehammer Games has now expanded into its own game. It may still end up being a Modern Warfare title, but it won't be sold as an expansion for MW2. Apparently, there is some discussion as to whether or not to title it ‘Modern Warfare 3'.

Insider-gaming also seems to have inside knowledge of planned beta tests for this year's Call of Duty. Apparently we'll get the first beta weekend in October, followed by early access to the campaign for pre-order customers on the 2nd of November. The full release will then take place on the 10th of November.

KitGuru Says: I for one was looking forward to a year without a totally new mainline Call of Duty. It always felt like Modern Warfare (2019) didn't get a long enough run before being replaced by Black Ops and while it seemed that this would be rectified for Modern Warfare 2, that no longer seems to be the case.
