Spill resistance seems like something that should have been a mainstay long ago, but is finally catching on in modern peripherals. SteelSeries has launched a new keyboard that does just that, with the Apex 150 able to take more than just a splash.

Fitted with a membrane sheet to protect the electronic internals and drainage cavities either side of the keyboard, it’s safe to say that SteelSeries has ensured that slight spills are nothing to worry about as the the Apex 150 can withstand being submerged without drowning. That being said, we still don’t recommend dunking it if you can help yourself.

SteelSeries has chosen rubber dome keys instead of the ever-popular mechanical switches, tailored with a proprietary “quick tensions switch” system intended for low friction delivery and durability while not sacrificing the “excellent key feel.”

SteelSeries goes on to explain this new system, stating that “”The quick tension keys are designed for fast reaction times; the tension membrane’s design pulls the key into actuation, resulting in a tactile key feel and quiet operation.”

The lighting on the keyboard isn’t traditional per-key RGB, but instead relies on zoning with 5 separate areas that can be lit differently. This, along with each key being individually programmable, makes use of SteelSeries Engine utility.

Readily available and coming in at $49.99/£59.99, the Apex 150 also touts Discord integration, anti-ghosting and 24-key rollover.

KitGuru Says: I would love to see a mechanical version of this, even if the price is to be bumped up a margin, but I feel that SteelSeries has tapped a great market here. Here’s hoping more keyboards get the water resistant treatment soon. What do you think of the Apex 150?
