Microsoft announces Surface Laptop Ultra with Nvidia RTX Spark

Microsoft has announced the Surface Laptop Ultra, a new high‑end Windows device built around NVIDIA’s RTX Spark platform. Pre‑orders opened today ahead of availability later this month. Microsoft is also introducing a second RTX Spark system aimed at developers, the Surface RTX Spark Dev Box.

The Surface Laptop Ultra is built around the NVIDIA RTX Spark Superchip, combining an NVIDIA Blackwell RTX GPU with up to 6,144 cores, an NVIDIA Grace CPU with up to 20 cores, and up to 128GB of unified memory. The system offers theoretical AI performance rated at up to 1 petaflop, with support for very large local models, while still handling creative applications and gaming.

To support the new hardware, Microsoft has introduced a revised thermal design offering up to 2.5x more thermal capacity than previous Surface Laptops. The device remains under 18mm thick and weighs under 4.5lb. It uses a 15‑inch PixelSense Ultra touchscreen rated for 2,000‑nit peak HDR brightness and positioned as Microsoft’s most colour‑accurate Surface Laptop display.

Other hardware features include a larger haptic touchpad, user‑replaceable storage, and a full port selection: three USB‑C ports (including a new magnetic USB‑C charging connector), HDMI, USB‑A, an SD card reader and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The laptop can also drive up to three external 4K displays.

Microsoft is also introducing the Surface RTX Spark Dev Box, a compact desktop system built around the same RTX Spark Superchip, offering up to 128GB of unified memory and the same theoretical AI performance for local development.

Surface Laptop Ultra is available for pre‑order starting at $2,599, with general availability beginning October 16th. The Surface RTX Spark Dev Box is priced at $5,999 and ships in November.
