Slay the Spire is a highly addictive yet rather hardcore deck-building rogue-like. Released back in 2019, the game helped usher in the rise of unique genre-bending rogue-likes while still remaining relevant and popular all these years later. This appears to be doubly so the case following the recent Early Access launch of its long-awaited sequel – with Slay the Spire 2 having officially sold over 3 million copies in its first week.
Taking to their Steam page to make the announcement, the team at Mega Crit revealed that “Slay the Spire 2 has been out for merely a week and we have already hit 3,000,000 units sold with more than 25,000,000 runs attempted!! (At least a few million are missing from that last datapoint as we started collecting these metrics a bit after launch).”
While certainly impressive, this figure does not come as too much of a surprise given the fact that upon its launch, Slay the Spire II amassed a massive peak concurrent player count of over half a million (574,638 players) – a figure which has remained pretty consistent on a daily basis since.
Unsurprisingly, reviews for the game have been equally as high, with the Slay the Spire II currently sitting at an ‘Overwhelmingly Positive’ on Steam across 50,000 different ratings.
Of course, this is just the start of the journey, with Mega Crit confirming some of Slay the Spire II’s initial upcoming content plans, including:
- A revamp of the badge/scoring system
- More art and VFX
- Ongoing balance patches
- Steam Workshop support
- Multiplayer QOL features
- And more
Slay the Spire II is already off to an excellent start, but with this being just the beginning, it will be interesting to see how the game is received (and how many units it will have sold) by the time the title leaves its Early Access period – whenever that may be.
