Google has launched Playground, an experimental AI-powered platform that lets users create 2D and 3D games with text prompts, without coding or drawing. The tool is now available on the official Playground website for US users aged 18 and older with a Google One membership.
Users build games through a chatbot-style interface, selecting between single-player or multiplayer modes for eligible genres. Creator workflows let users start from scratch, remix starter prompts, or use guided templates. Follow-up prompts let creators adjust physics, graphics, and gameplay mechanics, such as adding a double-jump feature to reach higher platforms.
Completed projects can stay private, generate shareable links for friends, or publish to the Playground Explore gallery, with support for in-game leaderboards. Google noted that games created on the platform won't flood Google Play for now.
Planned updates will introduce Unity Spark integration, bringing professional mechanics, high-fidelity 3D capabilities, and Unity runtime flexibility to the tool.
