Nowadays, most new games require over 100GB of space to install, with some titles going beyond 150GB. However, we've not yet seen a single-player game that demands more than 200GB of storage space. That may be about to change with Final Fantasy 7 Revelation.
In a recent interview with VGC, Final Fantasy 7 Revelation director, Naoki Hamaguchi said: “Things are still getting worked out, but it’s probably going to be around 200GB of game. I understand there are a lot of opinions about this topic, but at the end of the day, the fact is we need to overcome the hardware to a certain extent.”
Final Fantasy 7 Revelation is due to be a major release, and even larger in scale than Rebirth, which was already much, much bigger than FF7 Remake. Still, 200GB sounds extreme, and will pose difficulties for those on the Switch 2, which only has 256GB of internal storage.
We are still many months away from Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, so hardware requirements likely aren't final. 200GB is also unlikely to become a new standard for games, simply due to the fact that storage capacity in consumer hardware hasn't meaningfully grown in around a decade, and SSDs are now incredibly expensive to buy.
