GTA 6 has already made almost $300M through pre-orders according to analysts

Many analysts have been trying to predict how much money GTA 6 will make at launch. Now that pre-orders have been available for a few weeks, the predictions are starting to become more beleivable. Apparently, then game has already generated around $260M through pre-orders, and based on historical pre-order trends, that number should grow exponentially in the lead-up to launch.

According to NewZoo, GTA 6 generated $260M worldwide during its first week of pre-orders. As pre-order numbers tend to snowball in the lead-up to launch, particularly when marketing really ramps up, NewZoo expects GTA 6 to have the most successful pre-order campaign in history.

Beyond that, they anticipate that Rockstar will sell somewhere between 30 million and 50 million copies at launch, a number partially informed by current pre-order trends. If it hits those numbers, GTA 6 could bring in as much as $5 billion during the launch period, though they expect the number to fall closer to the $4.5 billion range.

These numbers aren't as crazy as what was previously reported on social media. Some began claiming that GTA 6 had already earned $1 billion through pre-orders during its first week, but NewZoo says that number is “absurd” and they don't beleive any game could pull those kinds of numbers now or in the future, this many months ahead of launch.

KitGuru Says: 50 million copies at launch does seem feasible for GTA 6. Between the Xbox Series X/S and the PS5, there is a high enough install base to achieve such a number.
