Kingdom Hearts 4 gets new trailer and 2027 multiplatform release date

The Kingdom Hearts panel at D23 this year did not disappoint. Not only did we get a new trailer for Kingdom Hearts 4, but a 2027 release date was also confirmed, alongside a new anime series. 

During the Kingdom Hearts anniversary panel at D23 on Friday, a new trailer for Kingdom Hearts 4 was shown, giving us a look at a new Disney Pixar world based on Coco. At the end of the trailer, we get confirmation of a ‘Late 2027' release date for the game, alongside confirmation that it will be a multi-platform release, spanning across PC, PS5, Xbox and Switch 2 on day-one.

Kingdom Hearts fans have one other thing to look forward to as well. A new anime series is being made, set in the Kingdom Hearts universe but not necessarily retelling the story from the games. Given Kingdom Hearts' long history of dropping important pieces of lore in random spin-offs, this is likely going to be a must-watch for Kingdom Hearts fans ahead of the new game.

The series is “inspired by” the videogame series, so it may focus on new characters, or side characters, rather than Sora himself. As you would expect, the anime will be airing on Disney+.

With Kingdom Hearts 4 now pencilled in for 2027, next year is shaping up to be absolutely huge for Square Enix. Aside from Kingdom Hearts 4, the publisher will also be launching Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, the third and final part of the FF7 Remake trilogy. On top of that, Final Fantasy 14 is getting its latest expansion too.
