Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown’s disbanded team have reportedly been revived by Ubisoft

In recent years we’ve seen Ubisoft trying to bring back its long-dormant Prince of Persia series, successfully releasing two well-liked titles in the form of The Rogue Prince of Persia and PoP: The Lost Crown. Unfortunately, despite receiving high praise, the latter of the two would see its core dev team disbanded shortly following the metroidvania title’s launch. In a welcome twist of fate, this ‘core team’ have now reportedly been brought back together to pitch a new project.

As reported by insider Gautoz (who first broke the news of The Lost Crown team’s disbanding back in late 2024), Ubisoft has recently decided to give the devs a second shot, writing (as translated by ResetEra user ‘Maxime’):

“A year and a half after this video [discussing the state of the team], little birds told me that the Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown core team has gotten the green light from Ubisoft to reunite and pitch game ideas. I don't know any more than that, and I don't want to—let's let them cook.”

As mentioned, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown was a critical hit upon its initial release back in early 2024, quickly cementing itself as the second highest-rated entry in the franchise’s history.

Unfortunately, the game’s sales were not to Ubisoft’s standard, selling 1.3 million copies in its first year and going on to push a total of 3 million by September of 2025 (likely aided by its arrival onto additional platforms).

This unfortunately culminated in the core team behind the game being disbanded and a possible sequel being canned. That said, with the devs now being brought back together, it will be interesting to see what they have planned. Hopefully Ubisoft chooses to approve whatever they wind up pitching.
