Following a pretty lengthy bout of silence, Bethesda Game Studios finally reappeared with a big update for Starfield. Officially available now, the long-awaited Free Lanes update introduces a surprising amount of welcome additions alongside the expected suite of bug fixes, adjustments, QoL improvements and much more.
Taking to their blog to detail the full patch notes, Starfield’s “biggest free update yet” Free Lanes has officially landed alongside the paid Terran Armada DLC. As mentioned, the full list of changes and additions is pretty extensive, but some of the most notable include:
- ‘Cruise Mode’ allowing you to “travel in open space or to POI locations between planets inside a star system”
- Weapon and armour customisation through X-Tech crafting
- Additional quality tiers to weapons and suits
- Rank 4 Legendary effects for weapons and suits
- New upgrade modules
- Buildable ship optimisation terminal
- Ship Equipment schematics
- New Legendary enemy modifiers
It continues:
- New Game+ refinements
- New ‘Moon Jumper’ vehicle
- New ship camera option
- New dungeons, space encounters, and points of interest throughout the game
- POIs are now distributed more evenly
- Ship building UI improvements
- Colony Wars Action Heroes collectibles
- Streamlined Starborn power upgrades
Of course, alongside these additions, the Free Lanes also coincides with the release of the Terran Armada DLC, adding a new story quest; companion; enemy incursions; ship parts and more.
