Final Lords of the Fallen update introduces ‘Advanced Game Modifier System’

Lords of the Fallen is an interesting case where both entries in the series were promoted on their utilisation of new tech – only to then receive a rather mild response from players. Fortunately, 2023’s Lords of the Fallen has seen a decent amount of post-launch support – with the game’s final update being by far its biggest.

Update 1.5 ‘Master of Fate’ is available now and represents the final major piece of post-launch support for the game. Luckily, it's a meaty one, with the devs at Hexworks calling it “the culmination of over 30 updates released since launch, resulting in significantly improved performance, stability and optimisation, alongside rigorous difficulty balancing in response to your feedback.”

While the update does bring with it a bunch of small yet notable tweaks across the board – with nifty inclusions such as FSR3 and more – by far the biggest addition is LotF’s new ‘Advanced Game Modifier System’, which is said to:

“Place power directly into your hands, allowing you to fully customise your game experience, using any combination of seven modifiers, to make the game easier, more difficult, or simply a completely new experience every time.”

The modifiers in question are the following:

  • Ironman (a semi-permadeath / rogue-lite mode)
  • Pre-Upgraded Loot
  • Randomised Loot
  • Randomised Enemies
  • More Enemies
  • Withered Healing
  • Vestige Decay (with 4 levels of severity)

While it is a shame to see that Lords of the Fallen has been unable to match the successed hoped for by the devs, it is encouraging at least to witness the second game take a massive step in the right direction.
