Monster Hunter Rise hits new milestone with 20 million copies sold

Though the most recent entry in the series has been mired with plenty of controversies (in particular at launch), the Monster Hunter franchise as a whole has had a huge resurgence over the past 10 or so years; thanks in part to the explosive success of 2018’s Monster Hunter World and its equally-as-impressive MH: Rise. While the former remains Capcom’s best-selling game of all time at 30+ million, the latter has managed to hit its own major milestone – officially selling over 20 million copies.

Taking to Twitter to make the announcement, Capcom officially revealed that 2021’s Monster Hunter Rise has continued to sell like hotcakes, writing:

“Monster Hunter Rise has hit the magnificent milestone of 20 million copies sold! To celebrate, please enjoy this Dango filled special artwork from the team. Thank you for your support, hunters of Kamura.”

While we will have to wait for Capcom’s next quarterly sales breakdown to officially confirm as much, as of right now 20 million copies puts Rise as the publisher’s 2nd best selling game of all time – narrowly beating out the excellent Resident Evil 2 Remake (currently at 19.7 million).

Already an impressive feat, the total number of actual players is likely to have far exceeded this figure, with MH: Rise having been available via Xbox Game Pass and PS Plus in the past.

Even with the arrival of Monster Hunter Wilds last year, Rise remains a favourite for many fans, owing to its smooth performance, somewhat smaller scope and less of a focus on hunting monsters in favour of getting into the actual fights much faster. It will be interesting to see whether Wilds ever manages to catch up.
