“The numbers aren’t there” for a new Dead Space game according to former producer

Dead Space has held a special place in many fans’ hearts, with the 3rd-person survival horror sci-fi series remaining a rather unique experience almost two-decades on from the first game’s initial release. Despite attempts to revive the franchise with 2023’s Dead Space remake, an ex-series producer and writer has claimed that “the numbers aren't there” to justify a new entry.

In an interview with the publication FRVR, former Dead Space writer and producer Chuck Beaver spoke on the prospects for a new entry in the much-loved Dead Space series.

Producer Numbers

Unfortunately, according to Beaver “the numbers aren’t there” for EA to justify investing in another Dead Space game, claiming that while there does exist a “fervent fan base,” a new entry would require an unreasonable amount of sales, stating:

“Horror games have a bit of a ceiling, you know, and I think the number back in [former EA VP] Frank Gibeau's day was 5 million units to keep going on Dead Space. I think the number is like 15 million units now, given the cost of things.”

Of course, this is just one person’s thoughts and so EA could just as easily announce Dead Space 4 tomorrow. That said, given Beaver’s experience in the industry and with EA / Dead Space in particular, it is safe to say that this explanation is likely correct.
