Capcom earnings predictions dip in wake of weak Resident Evil 6 sales

Capcom has reduced its earnings predictions for the year in the wake of sales of Resident Evil 6 not being as high as expected, as well as a delay in the release of upcoming 3DS title, Monster Hunter 4.

Previously Capcom had forecast that it would be making 105 billion (£735 million) Yen in net sales, but this was reduced to 93.5 billion (£680 million). Net profit was also hit, dropping by over a third to 6.5 billion yen (£472 million).

“Sales of the major new title Resident Evil 6 were initially strong but subsequently weakened,” a Capcom spokesperson said in a statement. “As a result, sales are certain to fall short of the plan.” CVG has it that while initially expecting it to sell upwards of seven million copies, Capcom admits that even its revised target of six million was too ambitious.

Resident Evil 6
While I admittedly haven't played a Resident Evil since the early few, you might suggest that any game franchise with "six" in the name has begun to outstay its welcome

While Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate – released is Japan as Monster 3G HD Ver. in December 2011 – is still on track for release in March 2013 on the Wii U, Capcom confirmed that the DS exclusive, Monster Hunter 4 would see its release pushed back to the summer.

KitGuru Says: Is it just me, or are some of the big names in gaming really struggling at the moment? While Capcom isn't exactly at the drain circling level that THQ is right now, it's an odd one seeing the foundations of these giant corporations wobbling.
