We have known for some time that Titanfall 2 wasn't the only project that Respawn Entertainment was working on and now we know roughly what else the studio has in the pipeline. It turns out that Respawn is also working on a Star Wars game, which will be published under the EA banner.
EA currently owns the rights to the Star Wars license when it comes to video games and while Respawn isn't owned by EA (yet), the studio do seem to have a close working relationship going on.
The game announcement was made in a blog post, where Respawn's Stig Asmussen wrote: “I am happy to announce our partnership with Electronic Arts and Lucasfilm to deliver a whole new adventure to the galaxy. For me, just typing these words is surreal. I have been playing Star Wars games my whole life, now I get to make a Star Wars game. On top of that, I get to do it at Respawn, a studio comprised of the most talented collection of game makers, creators, visionaries, and (most importantly) advocates for the player, that I have had the good fortune to work with. And we, like you all, have no shortage of Star Wars passion.”
“We’ll be making a third-person action/adventure game set in the Star Wars universe. Now, I understand on the surface this might sound a bit dry, but developing a game within the ever-expanding Star Wars universe opens up so many paths for us to go down, and an unparalleled playground to design within.”
That's really where the useful information for us to get excited about ends. The rest of the blog post reveals that Respawn are in-fact hiring more people to work on this Star Wars game but we have no idea if it will tie into the movies, explore a brand new story or when it will be coming out.
KitGuru Says: I was a big fan of Titanfall but we haven't really seen what else Respawn can do outside of a multiplayer shooter so it will be interesting to hear more about this project. However, It might be a while before we hear anything else about it, after all, we have known about Visceral Studios' Star Wars game for some time and have yet to see anything of it.
