PUBG surpasses 1.5 million concurrent players and teases future of the game

While PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds has managed to surpass Dota 2's 1.29 million concurrent player record, the title shows no signs of stopping there. Adding yet another laurel to its collection, PUBG has now surpassed 1.5 million concurrent players, prompting announcements and spit-balling of what the future holds for the game.

Dota 2 only set its 1.29 million record in March 2016, almost three years after its launch while holding its status as free-to-play. It's surprising that PUBG, a game that is just six months into its Early Access phase and holds a modest price tag has managed to dethrone that record so soon. And of course, it's not about to stop there.

In keeping players enjoying their experience and looking ahead, creator Brendan Greene has expressed his interest in the possibility of a single player, stating that he would “love” to make it happen in a Reddit AMA.

“I would love to add a single-player campaign to the game,” he said. “I think the island we have could be a great location for an interesting story, but unfortunately we just don't have the time or the resources for this at the moment!”

Of course, those resources are allocated to the upcoming release on PC and Xbox One, developing and balancing PUBG's second map as well as bringing in new weapons and vehicles, to which Greene teased one of three upcoming cars in a tweet.

KitGuru Says: I'm still impressed time after time whenever I see that the title has achieved something new. It means that the player base just keeps on winning so long as the developers remain as consistent with content and updates. Are you enjoying PUBG?
