PUBG’s deadlier blue zones patch is live, vaulting is almost ready

If you plan on playing some PUBG later this evening, then expect blue zones to suddenly be a bit harder. With this new patch, the blue zone will now deal more damage over time, making it harder for those on foot to run back to the safe zone if they are caught out. This should also diminish the number of players camping just outside of the safe zone to catch others off guard.

Writing in the patch notes for this week’s update, the developers wrote: “We have received a lot of feedback asking for improvement of the blue zone. We have decided to adjust the blue zone damage to encourage engagement inside of the play zone. From this new update, you will be able to focus more on the immediate, close-ranged skirmishes inside the play zone, instead of dealing with enemies outside of the play zone during the mid to late phases of the game.”

It seems that the development team is clamping down on one specific strategy, in which players camp outside of the safe zone with healing equipment, waiting until later in the game to join the fray. It is an effective strategy, especially given how easy it is to stay alive while in the blue zone. However, this doesn’t seem to be in line with the developer’s intent when it comes to the flow of the match. It is important to note that blue zone damage will only increase after the timer runs out on the first safe zone of a match. From there, the further you are away from the safe zone, the more damage you will take.

Finally, PUBG’s public test realm will be getting an update this week too, adding in the game’s long awaited vaulting and climbing mechanics, which will be a huge change for the game. Once the PTR has had some time to mess around with it and provide feedback, we should see it incorporated into the main game at some point in November.

KitGuru Says: With vaulting on the way and blue zones doing more damage, we could see quite a shift in player strategy in PUBG over the next few weeks. It will certainly be an interesting time, as players get used to the changes and figure out new play styles.
