Sources confirm Diablo 3 for Switch despite Blizzard saying otherwise

Last week, it appeared that Blizzard had begun slyly teasing Diablo 3 for the Nintendo Switch. This turned out to be a big deal, as fans got excited for the first Blizzard game on a Nintendo platform in close to two decades. Blizzard later claimed that it wasn't teasing anything, but inside sources have since confirmed otherwise.

After seeing the fan response, Blizzard offered the following statement: “As of now, we do not have any current plans to announce Diablo for Switch” and brushed it off as a “fun engagement piece” for social media. However, the folks over at Eurogamer have some well placed sources claiming otherwise. According to the insiders, Diablo 3 is in production for the Switch, though the tease may have arrived somewhat early, as plans to officially announce are still several months off.

Unfortunately, there is no confirmation on whether or not the Reaper of Souls expansion or Necromancer class will appear in the Switch version of the game. However, given that this content is available on all other platforms, it is hard to imagine Diablo coming to Switch without it.

Blizzard doesn't tend to comment on fan speculation, often leaving it to incubate. However, Nintendo isn't as fond of teasing its upcoming announcements, so perhaps that is why Blizzard offered its earlier statement, in an effort to keep upcoming Nintendo Directs shrouded in secrecy.

KitGuru Says: Over the last year, the Nintendo Switch has become my favourite gaming device. Diablo 3 also happens to be one of my most played games, so I'm very much on board for a Switch version. Hopefully an official announcement will arrive a little later this year, perhaps around E3.
