The Lord of the Rings: Gollum screenshots released

It has been just over one year since Daedalic Entertainment announced that they had obtained the rights to work on a Lord of the Rings title based on the original novels. We’ve been wondering what such a game might look like, particularly as it is confirmed for next-gen consoles. Now, we’ve finally got our first look.

As this is not a game based on the film IP, which Warner Bros. currently has the rights to, the aesthetic is more whimsical and decidedly unrealistic:

The screenshots were shared by German outlet GameStar earlier this week. The game is not coming out until 2021 though, so changes to assets, higher detail renders etc could be implemented later on.

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum will put players in the shoes of Smeagol/Gollum prior to his personality completely devolving. With that in mind, you’ll be hearing two voices in the character’s head as the game goes on, which will play into decision-making mechanics.

KitGuru Says: I’ve never been a huge fan of the more cartoon-ish look for LOTR, but this game could end up being interesting. What do you all think of Gollum so far?
