Nintendo is releasing the original Fire Emblem outside of Japan for the first time

Nintendo's long-running Fire Emblem franchise has been around since 1990 in Japan, but the series didn't make its way to the western world until 2004. The original game that kicked it all off, Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light, never released outside of Japan. That changes this year though, with Nintendo officially localising it for the first time.

Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light is coming to the Nintendo Switch with an official English translation on the 4th of December.

As you would expect for a game first released in 1990, this will be a very cheap digital download, priced at £3.99 in the UK. If you are a hardcore Fire Emblem fan though, then you may want to spring for the limited edition physical version.

A special 30th anniversary collector's edition of Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light is also releasing for $50 USD, complete with a replica game box, game cartridge, translated original game manual, map and a 222-page art book.

Similarly to the Super Mario 3D collection currently on Switch, Nintendo will only be selling this game digitally for a limited amount of time, giving you until March 31st 2021 to pick it up before it goes back in the vault.

KitGuru Says: Fire Emblem is easily top three for me when it comes to Nintendo franchises, so I'll be looking forward to checking this out. Have many of you been following Fire Emblem over the years? Are you interested in seeing the original game in English for the first time?
