Former Bethesda designer says Starfield 2 unlikely to happen

The team over at FRVR have had some very interesting interviews recently. Earlier this summer, the site spoke with former BioWare lead, Mark Darrah, learning a lot about the issues BioWare faces in the years ahead. Now, they've also spoken with a former Bethesda veteran, who made the bold prediction that we will never see a sequel to Starfield.

While Starfield did have some success and continues to get updates, the game wasn't an Elder Scrolls or Fallout-level hit. In a recent interview with FRVR, former Bethesda lead systems designer, Kurt Kuhlmann, said that he “would be very surprised” if there was ever a Starfield 2, because he doesn't think the original game was “anywhere near successful enough”.

However, Kuhlmann also believes that Bethesda would be able to crack the formula if given the opportunity to do a Starfield 2, saying: “It’s, in a way, too bad, because I think with the lessons learned on Starfield, a Starfield 2 could have been much closer to the game that Todd had in mind”.

Bethesda hasn't said anything one way or the other on a Starfield sequel. However, Microsoft, Bethesda's parent company, did make some major changes this year in an effort to re-focus its teams entirely on their biggest franchises, a move made to strengthen the likes of The Elder Scrolls and Fallout, not Starfield.

KitGuru Says: Considering how self-contained the story is for Starfield, I do wonder what a sequel could even look like. Would the Starborn still be a major part of the game? Would we finally meet aliens? Unfortunately, we may never get the answer to those questions.
