Pillars of Eternity is free on the Epic Games Store

Each week, the Epic Games Store offers a number of games to Epic account holders for free. As we near the end of the year, the storefront appears to be upping its offerings, gifting two Obsidian Entertainment RPGs entirely for free. Pillars of Eternity and Tyranny are both available to purchase for free from now until the 17th of December.

Pillars of Eternity Definitive Edition is an award-winning RPG developed by Obsidian Entertainment, who are known best perhaps for developing Fallout: New Vegas, though they also worked on South Park: The Stick of Truth, The Outer Worlds, and the recently announced Avowed. Originally released in 2015, the Definitive Edition includes the game’s expansion packs, offering even more content.

Tyranny – Gold Edition is another Obsidian Entertainment RPG, and like Pillars of Eternity, also includes all of its DLC. The game builds upon Pillars of Eternity’s mechanics and gameplay, though exists as its own unique story. Furthermore, Tyranny offers an expanded level of depth when it comes to player choice. Like Pillars of Eternity, Tyranny received a positive reception from both fans and critics – though slightly less so than PoE.

Both Pillars of Eternity and Tyranny are available to purchase and download for free from now until the 17th of December, at which point they will be replaced by a “mystery game”. Last year, in the final weeks of the 2019, the Epic Games Store ramped up its offerings of free games, both in quantity and quality. It’ll be interesting to see if they plan on doing the same this year.
