LG & Sony to cross license patents

Sony and LG have settled their patent infringement lawsuits which were based around blu ray players, mobile handsets and digital televisions. In a bold move they have agreed to cross license each others patents.

The Wall Street Journal asked for further details of the settlement but both have declined to comment.

LG and Sony have been locked in legal battle over 24 patent lawsuits. LG Electronics for instance tried to block sales of Sony Bravia televisions and Playstation 3 consoles in the U.S. due to apparent bluray violations. Sony fought back with a claim of intellectual property violation on their handsets, trying to stop shipments.

Kitguru says: The move will be seen as a positive, mature move from both companies as they try to work together across the full gamut of electronic sales.
