The Saints Row reboot has been a critical flop

After years on the backburner, Saints Row is back in the spotlight, with a new reboot arriving this week. Reviews for the title went live today, just ahead of its consumer release, and so far, it looks like the game is a flop.

At the time of writing, 79 approved critics have submitted their reviews and scores to OpenCritic, resulting in a ‘weak' overall rating, and an overall average score of 65 out of 100.

Some critics take issue with the open world gameplay design, stating that it doesn't feel ‘fresh' by modern standards. The game doesn't appear to bring much in the graphics department either.

Some of the more positive reviews point out that for long-time fans of Saints Row, the game offers a familiar adventure and a lot of free-roam fun. There are wacky moments, there is plenty of humour baked in, and you can cause a lot of havoc in the open world in-between missions.

KitGuru Says: It sounds like Saints Row doesn't reinvent the franchise, and with generally low scores, the game is less likely to find an audience outside of long-time fans of the series.

While its sequel has failed to make the same level of splash, the team are apparently working on a brand new game – this one being inspired by Titanfall.
